Some easy tips for a healthier day

We all want to lead a healthier life – but sometimes life itself gets in the way. Here are some ideas to help you work a bit of exercise and healthy eating into your busy day without having to spend a month in the gym...

  1. Too busy for breakfast? Stock up on fresh fruit and smoothies or juices in small bottles at the beginning of the week or pass a shop on your way to work and pick some up. It’ll reduce the 11 o’clock craving for biccies or crisps.
  2. Do you take a bus or tram to work? Try getting off one stop earlier for a couple of minutes brisk walking before reaching the office. (okay, if its raining, stay on the bus – no point in getting soaked and catching a cold)
  3. Working on the fifth floor? Take the stairs and leave the lift – its good for your heart. (if you work on the 45th floor then maybe take the lift part of the way...)
  4. Skip the canteen food two days a week and walk to the nearby deli for a sandwich – less temptation to have chips on the side and a bit of exercise into the bargain!
  5. A lot of us spend much of the day de-hydrated, especially if working in centrally heated or air-conditioned environments. Keep a supply of water at your desk and drink a little and often through the day. (Don’t drink too much unless you’re desk is near the loo’s)
  6. Resist the temptation to call your colleague upstairs on the phone – why not run upstairs and talk face to face? If you do it five times in a day, it’s gotta count for something!
  7. Going shopping? Do it locally to where you live and walk there and back – a bit of impromptu exercise - and you can upgrade the car with the parking fee’s you save!
